According to a recent World Economic Forum report on ‘Future of Jobs Report 2018’, 75 million jobs will be displaced due to artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and automation. However, it also says that 133 million new jobs may be created as organisations shift the balance between human workers and machines: a net gain of 58 million.
In fact, 65% of children entering school will eventually work at jobs that don’t exist today. Many of currently existing jobs could potentially be automated within the next 15 years. To keep pace with this new job structure we need to skill our children in robotics, AI and other Future Technology Skills that will be essential in the times to come.
Roles like data analyst, machine learning scientist, process automation specialists and digital marketing experts will be much more in demand in the coming decade and if we are not ready how will we compete with our peer group.
Here are a few roles that are going to be prevalent in the next decade.
Augmented
Reality Architect
In the age of automation designing, buildings or
cityscapes will see a complete change. Latest technology like Augmented Reality
and Virtual Reality will be used much more in the coming times. AR is already
being used in this field by designers to take a look at the finished products
even before the construction has been completed.
With the advancement in AR technology, we will see an incredible mix of both virtual and real elements in our cities, homes and offices. These places will be designed by the new breed of architects called Augmented Reality Architects who will be proficient in the latest technology.
Cyber
City Analyst
Automation in the future means smarter cities,
which in return means that a constant flow of data, relating to assets,
external factors like weather, and individual citizens, will need to be
analysed and maintained in the best possible way. This is going to be one of
the most crucial job roles which will ensure that the future cities run
smoothly. This role is already in existence, however, it will have a larger
role to play in the next decade.
Urban
Farming
Farming as we see today is going to change
extensively. As the population grows and more people migrate to cities for a
better future we are going to see urban farms coming up near our locality. With
the help of the latest technology, we will see farming in places like rooftops,
warehouses and underground bunkers. Urban farming to some extent has already
started in some countries but it’s going to be an industry to reckon in the
next few years.
Data-Driven
Life Coaches
Machines these days capture everything from the
speed with which you read books to your heart rate to your fitness and exercise
regimens to your shopping routine or your eating habits. All this stored data
can be analysed and used in interesting ways.
A machine might be able to tell you your habits but it will not be able to encourage you as another human being. Hence, a human’s “soft skills” like communication will be an important asset in helping people change negative habits.
